Water and hydrogen come together at NWBA’s end-of-year event at KWR

Event details

What role does water play in the development of a sustainable hydrogen economy? And how can we ensure that growing demand for water for hydrogen production does not put drinking water supplies under pressure? These questions are central to KWR’s research and are increasingly relevant to both the water and energy sectors.

On Monday 7 December, KWR and the Netherlands Hydrogen Association (NWBA) will jointly host the NWBA’s end-of-year event at KWR in Nieuwegein. The event offers an opportunity to exchange knowledge on developments in hydrogen, make new connections and round off the year together.

Water for hydrogen production

Producing green hydrogen requires water. At the same time, freshwater resources are under increasing pressure. Which alternative water sources could be used for hydrogen production, and what conditions need to be met to make their use sustainable?

Through the WiCE project Water for Hydrogen Production (W4H2), KWR and its project partners, including NWBA, are exploring how water can be supplied responsibly for green hydrogen production. The research focuses on alternative water sources, safeguarding drinking water resources and strengthening collaboration between the water and energy sectors.

During the event, Daniël Bakker (KWR) will share insights into KWR’s research and the role of water in the hydrogen value chain. Bert Strijker (Waterstof Utrecht) will highlight developments in the Utrecht region, while Arjan van Ginkel (NWBA) will reflect on the past year and look ahead to the challenges facing the hydrogen sector.

For professionals in the water sector, the event provides an opportunity to gain insight into developments in hydrogen production and connect with representatives from research, policy and industry. Bringing these sectors together is essential to finding sustainable solutions to future water demand.
