Nicolien van Aalderen has been working as a Public Design researcher in the Resilience Management and Governance team since 2019. She focuses on issues related to the social context of water and area processes. She engages in research into contextual processes and stakeholder interactions, as well as the creation and establishment of collective design processes.
As coordinator of the thematic research ‘Environment and Transitions’ in the Joint Research Programme of KWR and the water utilities (BTO), Nicolien directs the joint research of the Dutch and Flemish water utilities into context management and the inclusion of societal values in the sustainability transitions the sector is facing.
In addition to studying the social context, Nicolien also works on the establishment of future studies such as the GRROW project, in which alternative futures for the drinking water chain have been developed with young drinking water professionals.
