Katja Barendse works as a public design researcher in the Resilience Management & Governance team. She analyzes obstacles to sustainable development caused by deeply rooted paradigms, often resulting in so-called ‘lock-in mechanisms’ and ‘path dependencies.’ Her research focuses on exploring ways to break these lock-ins and bring about transformative changes. She particularly focuses on transformative knowledge (art-science collaborations) and social learning (DWSI). The idea is that these forms of learning lead to new perspectives that outline alternative futures and develop courses of action. This also involves addressing the perceptions of clients and professionals within the watersector by making emotions, underlying beliefs, and needs visible.
