Elvio Amato works as a scientific researcher in the Chemical Water Quality and Health team. His current research activities focus on the monitoring, occurrence and behaviour of emerging contaminants in water. In particular, he focuses on passive (and active) sampling methods for applications in chemical and biological monitoring, and coupled with non-target screening analyses. Elvio attained his PhD in Environmental Chemistry from the University of Wollongong (Australia), and worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the University of Antwerp (Belgium). Within the last 10 years, Elvio has worked on multidisciplinary research projects focusing on applications of passive sampling combined with ecotoxicological methodologies for the assessment of the bioavailability of chemicals in aquatic ecosystems (i.e., sediment and water). His work focused on substances with varying physicochemical properties, including metals, polar and non-polar organic compounds. Elvio is an active member of international networks such as ICES and NORMAN.
