Beatriz Gutierrez Caloir works in the Drinking Water Infrastructure team. She is a water resources modeler and remote sensing consultant with a background in civil engineering, hailing from Bolivia. She completed an M.Sc in Hydroinformatics: Modelling and Information Systems for Water Management at IHE UNESCO-Delft in The Netherlands. With over six years of experience as a hydrologist in Bolivia and additional skills acquired at IHE, she has developed a strong understanding of different models for rainfall-runoff assessment, water management, water supply assessment, extreme events, among others. Beatriz has published a peer-reviewed paper on generating GIS tools for mapping, planning, and implementing large-scale Nature Based Solutions for flood risk reduction, developed in the frame of the RECONECT 2020 EU Horizon project. This work involved a combination of hydrodynamic models, machine learning, and remote sensing techniques for mapping suitable allocations. Additionally, she is a co-author of another published peer-reviewed paper studying the hydro-climatology in the upper Madeira River basin (Amazon Basin), using daily records to assess the runoff and rainfall variability in the Madeira sub-basins. She is interested in climate change/risk mitigation, water modeling, hydro-climatology, water supply systems, , nature-based solutions, remote sensing, GIS, python, and machine learning techniques.
