Experienced researcher Ecology (32-40 hours)

For the team Ecohydrology we are looking for an experienced researcher Ecology. Are you the curious, entrepreneurial and motivated researcher who wants to work with us on diverse research projects in the field of water and nature, and at the dynamic intersection of research and practice? Then we would like to meet you.

 

About the position

You will work (alone or in teams) on various projects and lines of research at the interface of ecology and hydrology. Examples include protection and restoration of nature and/or water catchment areas, ecological effects of nitrogen deposition, and the effects of dewatering, (drinking) water extraction and climate change on nature.

 

Your work will include:

  • Conducting research on vegetation, (hydro)ecology, soil and hydrogeochemistry in, predominantly, Dutch (nature) areas;
  • Conducting reviews and meta-analysis for (hydro)ecological and biogeochemical issues;
  • (Co)writing proposals, reports and making and giving presentations as a result of the research carried out.

 

Your profile

You are an experienced researcher with an understanding and knowledge of hydro-ecology, vegetation and biogeochemistry. You are creative and know how to turn (research) ideas into projects, perhaps even (multi-year) research programs. For this you make use of your relevant (inter)national network and acquisition experience. You are a “connector” and team player with good communication skills.

 

Further:

  • Do you have a completed academic degree relevant to this position, for example landscape or systems ecology and/or hydrogeochemistry;
  • Do you have at least 10 years of working experience in one and preferably several of the above mentioned fields;
  • Do you have a good knowledge of Dutch/Northwest European higher plants and vegetation types;
  • Do you have practical experience with field research on vegetation, hydrogeochemistry, and ideally, hydrology;
  • Do you know how to plan and organize work well, are creative and innovative;
  • You have an excellent command of the Dutch and English languages, both verbally and in writing.
  • It is an advantage if you have experience and expertise in stream valleys and/or coastal dunes;
  • It is an advantage if you have an affinity with ecological modeling.

The team

Team Ecohydrology investigates the influence of climate change, nutrients and (water)management on biodiversity and groundwater recharge, among other things, and studies the effect of recovery measures. In doing so, we contribute to the achievement of nature objectives and to a sustainable freshwater supply. Specifically for the urban environment, we look at “blue-green” solutions to counteract the effects of climate change. The team consists of 15 specialists with widely varying backgrounds and experience.
