Implementation of screening and NTS methods in practice

Drinking water laboratories have recently expressed a need for the further integration of screening methods, including non-target screening (NTS), in the methods used to monitor water quality.

Technological progress in the domain of screening methods means they have become essential tools for monitoring emerging substances, as well as for detecting potentially harmful compounds. The aim is therefore to take concrete steps towards including these screening methods in the routine work of drinking water laboratories.

To achieve this goal, a memorandum will be drafted to emphasise the importance and purpose of screening/NTS and to share an overview of research looking at these methods. This information will be used to define a research programme to implement screening/NTS at the drinking water laboratories so that these laboratories can conduct the analyses.
