KWR is the leading public-oriented water knowledge institute with high-quality laboratories that conducts independent research. The organisation was established more than fifty years ago in response to the need for research and innovation in the field of drinking water supply. KWR is at the heart of practical applications and works daily to ensure sufficient, healthy and safe water for people and nature. Through applied research, KWR generates knowledge that brings the value of water to life.

KWR uses its water expertise to contribute to tackling societal challenges. KWR builds bridges between science and practice and realises technical and societal solutions. In addition, KWR seeks public-private partnerships to valorise its knowledge products and accelerate the use of knowledge in practice. KWR has a solid reputation as a knowledge provider, innovation accelerator and top-level international network developer.

KWR’s ambition is to be a national and international leader in finding scientifically based solutions to global water issues through high-quality, excellent research. KWR’s vision is to develop over the next ten years into a knowledge institute for transformative water science with a European presence.

KWR is owned by the shareholder organisation KWH Water B.V. KWH’s shareholders are the ten Dutch public (drinking) water companies and the Flemish De Watergroep. This makes the business model unique in the world: a public-oriented research institute that is organised as a business with a collective participation model.

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is part of the management team (MT) and, in this position, contributes to the design, formulation and realisation of the strategic (financial) goals and is therefore jointly responsible for the overall results of the organisation. The CFO is responsible for ensuring that the organisation remains financially healthy, efficient, compliant, sustainable and socially successful. The role is broader than just the financial health of the organisation. KWR is looking for a CFO who looks at value in a broad and strategic sense. In addition, the CFO also has an external role, representing KWR to public and private clients and partners.
