UPPWATER subsidies published: €23 million for broad-based coalitions

Two new subsidy schemes for the first UPPWATER period (2025-2029), with a total budget of €23 million, were published under the auspices of the UPPWATER innovation programme on 8 October 2025. The application period will be from 23 October 2025 to 23 January 2026. The schemes will give broad-based coalitions the opportunity to develop new water technologies further, test them and scale them up for practical application.

The schemes offer funding for both pilot projects and full-scale demonstration projects. Pilot projects test new water technologies on a small scale in a controlled environment. Full-scale demonstrations focus on scaling up these innovations for use in the field.

Applications can be submitted during a period of three months after the opening of the application period. Once the deadline for applications has passed, the Minister will announce which applications have been approved within thirteen weeks. All valid applications will be reviewed regardless of when they are submitted.

UPPWATER

UPPWATER is the booster programme for the Dutch watertech sector. It implements the Water Technology Growth Plan and is made possible in part by funding from the National Growth Fund.

KWR is one of the UPPWATER initiators and consortium partners, and it is responsible for program line 2: Pilots & Testing. This is an essential step in the acceleration of the application of innovative water technology.

More information about the schemes, application forms and annexes can be found on the UPPWATER website.
