N₂O Day at KWR

From Insight to Impact: Reducing N₂O Emissions in the Water Sector

As the impacts of climate change become increasingly visible, reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a growing priority for industries, governments and society. Nitrous oxide (N₂O) is one of the most potent greenhouse gases, with a global warming potential approximately 273 times greater than that of CO₂.  

Wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) are recognised as important sources of N₂O emissions, making this topic increasingly relevant for the water sector. To support knowledge exchange and collaboration, KWR is organising its 1st N₂O Day: a dedicated event bringing together experts, water utilities, technology providers, policymakers, researchers and other stakeholders involved in greenhouse gas emissions within the water cycle. 

The event will provide opportunities for participants to share experiences, practical insights and latest developments related to: 

• Monitoring campaigns and field measurements
• Modelling and prediction of N₂O emissions
• Mitigation and adaptation strategies
• Operational optimisation approaches
• Guideline and framework development
• Policy and regulatory perspectives
