Klaasjan J. Raat is a Senior scientific researcher and Project manager in the Geohydrology team. He is an expert in water resources management, water reuse, and freshwater supply in coastal areas. At KWR, he initiates and coordinates R&D projects within these fields, with the common goal to come to practical solutions for the problems faced by water end-users.
Klaasjan co-leads the national knowledge program COASTAR (‘fresh at hand, saline at bay’) and the water resources management theme within the water in the Circular Economy (WiCE) research program. Together with international colleagues, he has initiated various EU research programs, including LIFE Freshman and the Horizon 2020 project SUBSOL. Also, he was the co-founder of the public-private partnership Allied Waters | SALutions. All these initiatives are dedicated to developing and implementing (coastal) groundwater management concepts, safeguarding water supply for industry, cities, agriculture and drinking water, both in the Netherlands and abroad.
