SubSol: underway one successful year

On 12-13 September the partners of the Horizon 2020 SubSol project gathered in Berlin. The project’s objective is to introduce new subsurface concepts for groundwater management to the market and thereby improve the provision of freshwater in coastal areas. In the meeting hosted by Adelphi, the partners were able to look back on a successful first year, in which a variety of work packages made good progress.

The focus on the first year was on updating, improving and monitoring of the existing reference sites. Moreover, new sites were set up in Dinteloord (first ASR-coastal well installed, with four separate well screens), Falster (geological exploration, monitoring wells installed), and Schinias (site selected, final design and geological characterisation). Market scans were also carried out in a number of countries and stakeholder meetings and interviews conducted in Denmark, the Netherlands and Greece. A big effort was also put into communications, including the launching of the SubSol website which is soon to feature promotional films. Over the next six months, focus will be placed principally on developing the Subsol knowledge base and evaluating potential markets.
