Peer Timmers is trained in microbial ecophysiology. He applies as broad a range of chemical and molecular biological techniques as possible to determine which microorganisms are responsible for a particular process, and the extent of the importance of the process in a system. During his doctoral research at Wageningen University & Research and his post-doc work at Wetsus in Leeuwarden, he studied how to use microorganisms for the degradation of undesirable substances or for the production of valuable resources from waste streams ‑ preferably for both simultaneously. At KWR, Peer concentrates on similar questions which contribute to understanding the relation between microbial and chemical water quality and that might possibly lead to new applications.
