Biological stability parameters in operational practice

New methods for determining and predicting biological stability developed since 2010 are applied less often in daily drinking water practice than are the previously existing older methods. This,…

Reuse of activated carbon for the removal of organic micropollutants

The use of personal care products, dietary supplements and medicines is constantly increasing. This is partly due to the ageing, and growing, population. A large fraction of personal…

PATHOCERT- Pathogen Contamination Emergency Response Technologies

What are the waterborne pathogen challenges, and how are they affecting the first responders? How should they react to enhance the resilience of European cities to waterborne threats…

Molecular-biological methods

Traditionally, microbiological analyses are carried out through the cultivation of organisms. Molecular methods in contrast research the genetic material – DNA and RNA – in the water. These methods are faster and provide more information about the…

PFAS: A Threat for the Dutch Drinking Water Cycle?

Poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) are a broad group of anthropogenic organic substances which have been extensively used since the 1940s. Due to their persistency, bioaccumulation and toxicity, PFAS are a threat…

Survival and growth of water lice on organic matter in drinking water distribution networks

Earlier research has indicated that a correlation exists between the presence of water lice and the Aeromonas count in drinking water, and that this bacterium probably partly lives…
