Timon works in the Water Treatment & Resource Recovery team. There, he works on membrane-related processes for drinking water treatment and is engaged in creating value from the concentrate streams released in the process, by treating them. Timon has a chemical background and did his PhD research at the University of Twente/Wetsus on obtaining renewable energy by applying reverse electrodialysis to salt gradients. Here, he mainly looked at applying ion exchange membranes that have specific transport properties for mono- and divalent ions (e.g. Calcium and Magnesium). After his PhD, he worked for two years at the EMI (European Membrane Institute) contract research for membrane processes in the water field. There, he worked mainly on devising and validating remineralisation of RO permeate by Donnan Dialysis for drinking water applications. This has been patented and an NWO Demonstrator approved.
