South Africa is currently facing a persistent water crisis and training courses ensure that key players in the water sector can improve their customer service in the field of drinking water and sanitation. For that reason, drinking water specialist Ron Jong visited Durban and Cape Town as part of the OKP-Nuffic project. The goal was providing training in the field of drinking water treatment for workers and operators at drinking water treatments.

Effective training methods and professionally trained trainers result in enthusiastic participants

By implementing innovative and effective training methods, the gap is bridged between theory & practice, engineers & operators, research & implementation, education & work. In Durban and Cape Town, almost 80 participants have been taught the Basics of Drinking Water Production. The course was set up by water technologists from Durban and Cape Town, Dutch drinking water experts from KWR and education specialists from Wateropleidingen/World Water Academy. The pieces of training were given by a team, existing of local specialists who were trained in South Africa as a trainer and Ron Jong as a Dutch specialist in the field of drinking water treatment. The pieces of training ended with a design assignment, and it was a celebration to see how enthusiastically the participants applied the learned substance immediately.
