KWR researchers presented work on chemical risks on the water system of hydrocarbon extraction and other KWR research on development, new applications and implementation of bioanalytical tools.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<h2>The 11th BioDetectors conference 2018\u00a0 in Aachen<\/h2>\n<p>In Aachen, a vibrant city with clear presence and appreciation for RWTH Aachen University, the 11th BioDetectors conference <a href=\"https:\/\/www.biodetectionsystems.com\/fileadmin\/user_upload\/BDS\/Documenten\/Events\/BioDetectors_Conference_2016\/11th_BioDetectors_Aachen_13-14_Sept_2018_Flyer_D_EmailV_10-9-2018.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">2018<\/a> was held on September 13-14. The aim of the meeting was to bring together scientists involved in the development and application of in vitro effect-based bioanalysis technologies. Applications, technical developments and research strategies were presented from different research fields such as food (packaging) safety, green toxicology in industrial applications, anthropogenic impact on ecosystems and water quality testing.<\/p>\n<h2>Contributions of KWR researchers<\/h2>\n<p>PhD-student Ann-H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Faber (associated Utrecht University, KWR and the Amsterdam Institute for Biodiversity and Ecosystem Dynamics) presented her work on the evaluation of chemical risks on the water system in relation to hydrocarbon extraction. I presented an overview of ongoing KWR research on development and new applications of bioanalytical tools, and Dutch initiatives to support the implementation of bioanalytical tools in water <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kwrwater.nl\/en\/experts-expertises\/expertises\/chemical-water-quality\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">quality<\/a> monitoring.
