Honorary Fellows constitute our professional reference; their importance lies in their commitment, energy and support. Among other things, the honorary title underlines our awareness that serving the public good in the field of Dutch and international water management requires special knowledge, expertise and experience that only in exceptional cases are to be found in a single person.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>KWR\u2019s CEO appoints a maximum of one lifelong fellow every year upon the recommendation of the management team, which previously consults the chairs of the KWR Scientific Council and Supervisory Board on the matter. KWR\u2019s first Honorary Fellow was appointed in 2015:\u00a0Wim van Viersen appointed Martien den Blanken, former director of PWN Waterleidingbedrijf Noord-Holland, as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kwrwater.nl\/en\/actueel\/former-pwn-director-martien-den-blanken-is-first-kwr-honorary-fellow\/\">the first KWR Honorary Fellow<\/a>.\u00a0In the following years,\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.kwrwater.nl\/en\/actueel\/joan-rose-appointed-kwr-honorary-fellow\/\">Joan Rose,\u00a0<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kwrwater.nl\/en\/actueel\/professor-willy-verstraete-appointed-kwr-honorary-fellow\/\">Willy Verstraete<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kwrwater.nl\/en\/actueel\/ad-van-wijk-appointed-kwr-honorary-fellow\/\">Ad van Wijk, <\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kwrwater.nl\/en\/actueel\/announcement-of-kwr-honorary-fellow\/\">Harry Seah<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kwrwater.nl\/en\/actueel\/marion-koopmans-receives-kwr-honorary-fellowship\/\">Marion Koopmans<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.kwrwater.nl\/en\/actueel\/luc-keustermans-awarded-kwrs-seventh-honorary-fellowship-for-his-contribution-to-flemish-dutch-water-research\/\">Luc Keustermans<\/a> were appointed KWR Honarary Fellow.<\/p>\n<table>\n<tbody>\n<tr>\n<td width=\"150\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kwrwater.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/Oud-PWN-directeur-Martien-den-Blanken-eerste-KWR-Honorary-Fellow-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Oud PWN directeur Martien den Blanken eerste KWR Honorary Fellow\" \/><\/td>\n<td><strong>Martien den Blanken<\/strong> was appointed\u00a0Honorary Fellow in 2015, because of his considerable and years-long dedication, as the director of a drinking water company, to developing a compelling joint research programme and strengthening the innovation power of the Dutch water sector.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kwrwater.nl\/actueel\/oud-pwn-directeur-martien-blanken-eerste-kwr-honorary-fellow\/\">Read more<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kwrwater.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/12\/Joan-Rose-008_web-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Joan Rose web\" \/><\/td>\n<td>The prominent international researcher, <strong>Joan Rose<\/strong>, was appointed Honorary Fellow in 2016, because of her enduring and pioneering research into microbiology, water quality and health, and her strong international commitment to stimulating excellent, socially-embedded research.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kwrwater.nl\/actueel\/joan-rose-benoemd-tot-kwr-honorary-fellow\/\">Read more<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kwrwater.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/01\/Willy-Verstraete-en-wim-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"Willy Verstraete en wim\" \/><\/td>\n<td>KWR bestowed Professor <strong>Willy Verstraete<\/strong>\u00a0in 2017 the Honorary Fellowship in recognition of his great contributions to research into microbial processes and to responsible resource and environmental management.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.kwrwater.nl\/actueel\/kwr-benoemt-prof-dr-willy-verstraete-tot-honorary-fellow\/\">Read more<\/a><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<tr>\n<td><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter\" src=\"https:\/\/www.kwrwater.nl\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/honorary-Fellow-Ad-van-Wijk5-2019-150x150.jpg\" \/><\/td>\n<td>In 2018, KWR awarded <strong>Ad van Wijk<\/strong> this Honorary Fellowship in recognition of his great contribution to the institute.
