Researcher – Intelligent drinking water network Management

Your profile

At KWR we know a lot about water quality and drinking water distribution, and we undertake specific research into the things we do not yet know. That allows us to expand our knowledge further, share it with our fellow researchers throughout the world and apply it in practice.

We provide the drinking water sector with up-to-date knowledge and tools on drinking water distribution. It is our ambition to do that better tomorrow than we are able to do today. For our Water Infrastructure team we are looking for a Researcher/Adviser who understands and has knowledge of asset management and materials. We expect this member of staff to help bridge science to practice and be capable of applying, in practice, the knowledge and tools we develop.

You will be involved in the development of a vision on and tools for asset management (including hydroinformatics and cyber security). You are capable of developing your ideas and clearly conveying your vision to others and enjoy publishing articles and giving presentations. You are able to work flexibly with other practical professionals at the water companies and are able to identify opportunities for new projects in the Netherlands and abroad.

The job

We are looking for an enthusiastic and motivated researcher who has a ‘both feet on the ground’ mentality and who is preferably, has feeling for the practical side. You know everything about drinking water distribution; you monitor developments in your field closely and know how to apply them in practice.


  • are a university science graduate with an interest in hydroinformatics (preferably civil engineering, control theory, mechanical engineering);
  • preferably have experience in shaping asset management policies;
  • have around five year’s work experience in the water or energy sector (drinking water company, water board, energy company or engineering consultancy) or related sector, and
  • have an excellent command of Dutch and English, both spoken and written.

The Water Infrastructure team undertakes research projects into the quality and quantity of drinking water and pipe materials. With new knowledge and new tools we help drinking water companies make smart and sustainable investments in their networks. The aim: uninterrupted availability of high-quality drinking water. The team consists of 12 specialists from a range backgrounds and experiences.
