Communications officer (32-40 hours)

For our COM team, we are looking for an enthusiastic, service-oriented hands-on person who masters WordPress, InDesign and Photoshop and loves organising.

It is Monday morning, 10 o’clock. As a communications officer, you and your colleagues start the new week. We do a quick round; did you have a nice weekend? Then we go through the content planning for the next two weeks. After all, every day, there is news about KWR’s water research to inform the outside world. You have a say in how that news is designed. You will also be the point of contact for all kinds of practical communication questions from staff, which you will increasingly be answering yourself as you get more experienced.

You also ensure that all our communication is recognisable and clear. On our websites, on socials and in printed matter and digital newsletters. For instance, you post blogs and articles by our researchers, send newsletters and shape media statements with your creative design skills. You always do this in close cooperation with your teammates; the advisors and the editors.

What are we looking for

You are a communications professional and are at the start of your career. You want to tackle everything to improve in the communication field. You have a high degree of independence and an active learning attitude; when in doubt, you check with a colleague – and then move on. If you have discovered something that could be of interest to colleagues, you share it enthusiastically.

You may be a recent graduate, but working on your professional skills continues. You can clearly articulate the direction in which you would like to develop yourself. We will look with you and give you room for that development, for example through training, education, time and, of course, supervision.

Your profile

  • You have a completed MBO communication education (e.g. Communication & Media);
  • You have mastered InDesign, Photoshop and WordPress. You know the Microsoft Office365 packages (including PowerPoint, Sharepoint and Teams) and pick up new software applications quickly (we work with Trello and Spotler, for example);
  • You are social and service-oriented. KWR researchers are our team’s ‘customers’; we provide service and help them communicate better.
  • You have organisational skills and can cite examples.
  • You have an excellent command of the Dutch and English languages, both verbally and in writing. If you enjoy writing and have a great sense of language, we’d love to see that.
  • You are active on social media. You are familiar with the pros and cons of apps you do not use yourself.

If you do not fit the full profile, but are a starter and enthusiastic about this position? Then we would also welcome your motivation and CV.

Our offer

We are strongly committed to a long-term working relationship, personal growth and career development. To this end, we offer you a good start in the organisation, various courses and skills training and membership of a professional association. A good work-life balance is paramount for us.

KWR has excellent primary and secondary terms of employment. The salary scale of communications officer is: €3,147- €4,093. The Flexible Working Conditions Budget of 22.11% comes on top of your gross salary. KWR is a member of the collective labour agreement for water companies (WWb).

Our office in Nieuwegein is a sustainable and very striking building, designed for cooperation and knowledge sharing between colleagues, teams and external relations. Working from home is also part of the terms of employment. KWR takes care of your home office furniture.

The team

The communications team has eight colleagues and is close-knit. We have an enormous drive to deliver quality, but at the same time,we always have an eye for people. We have fixed office days so we see each other a lot and have lunch together, and partly we work from home. Each of us excels in something special and together we stand strong.

Together with your colleagues – four consultants and three specialists – you work on numerous internal and external communications. There are projects running for which house-style tools are made. At the end of the year, we will launch the Annual Review 2024, and there is a stack of scientific publications that deserve attention on the socials. Together with researchers and ICT colleagues, we are creating more and more Sharepoint sites to share knowledge intelligently with each other and with clients. For press enquiries on hot topics like PFAS, persistent drought and drugs in sewers, we guide researchers, resulting in newspaper articles and media appearances on radio and TV.
