Stijn Brouwer is a senior researcher at KWR Watercycle Research Institute where he does social research in water governance issues. As a doctorate in operational management, his research interests and expertise are mainly in citizen/client participation, citizen science, strategic innovation processes and the role of policy entrepreneurs. Stijn is involved in various research projects in which he assists water companies in dealing with the increasingly complex role of clients and translating this knowledge to their operational management. For example, he is currently the content leader of several studies on citizen science. Stijn also has extensive experience in European research programmes in water governance, including DEMOWARE, DESSIN, RESPONSES and NeWater. He did research in countries including South Africa, the United States, Italy, Germany, Poland, and the United Kingdom. Stijn has a multidisciplinary background and studied at the University of Pretoria (South Africa), Södertörn University (Sweden), the University of Amsterdam and VU University Amsterdam. Since 2014, Stijn has been an expert in part of the OECD’s Water Governance Initiative.
