Stijn Brouwer is a senior researcher at KWR Watercycle Research Institute, where he does socio-scientific research in water governance and resilience issues. Having done his doctoral work on operational management, Stijn’s research interests and expertise are mainly in citizen/customer participation, citizen science, strategic innovation processes and the role of policy entrepreneurs. He is involved in various research projects in which he assists water utilities in dealing with the increasingly complex role of customers and translating this knowledge to their operational management. In addition, Stijn is the coordinator of the Customer theme group of the Joint Research Programme with the water utilities, and content leader of several multidisciplinary studies on citizen science, governance and customer perspective. He also has extensive experience in European research programmes in water governance, including NextGen, AquaNES, DEMOWARE and DESSIN. He has moreover carried out research in other countries, including South Africa, the United States, Italy, Germany, Poland, and the United Kingdom. Stijn has a multidisciplinary background and studied at the University of Pretoria (South Africa), Södertörn University (Sweden), the University of Amsterdam and VU University Amsterdam.
