Steven Ros is a geohydrologist. He specializes in modelling density-dependent groundwater flows (and fresh-salt water in particular) and in programming and running data analyses in Python such as water balance calculations and GIS analyses (using ArcGIS). Also, he had an active role in monitoring pilots within the EU projects DESSIN and Horizon 2020 SUBSOL. DESSIN’s goal is solving water problems through the sustainable use of the ecosystem. The SUBSOL project focused on marketing innovative well designs and configurations to protect, increase and make freshwater springs in coastal areas optimally manageable. Steven is now actively involved in the project COASTAR Waterbank Westland. The idea behind the ‘Waterbank’ is to balance the amount of water pumped up for irrigation in greenhouses by infiltrating surpluses of precipitation. An additional benefit of timely infiltration is that flooding can be limited.
