Ron Jong is a broadly-oriented and versatile researcher in the field of (drinking) water treatment. KWR’s slogan ‘Bridging science to practice’ is his catchphrase. His areas of expertise include conventional water treatment processes, such as aeration, rapid filtration and softening, and the removal of nitrate and fluor from water. But Ron is also a specialist in finding low-cost solutions for water-quality problems in developing countries, and in training local staff. He also makes small detours into rainwater treatment and use, and into risk assessment of treatment processes within the context of asset management. During his previous period at KWR as a process technologist (1988-2001), he built up experience with techniques like denitrification, RO, electrodialysis and activated carbon filtration for nitrate removal, and the removal of pesticides from water. He was also a researcher during the Household Water hype. As a process technology specialist at Vitens (2001-2019), Ron designed the technology for three treatment processes, optimised treatment processes and acted as a consultant in industry water projects. His research subjects were RO stack design, P-free antiscalants, air-flushed RO (AiRO), and the underpinning of water-quality parameters (hardness, manganese).
