Milo de Baat is a researcher in the Chemical Water Quality and Health team. His activities focus on sampling, measuring and understanding the effects of the growing diversity of chemical contaminants in the water cycle. He received his doctorate in 2020 from the University of Amsterdam for work on the combined use of time-integrated sampling (passive sampling) of surface water with chemical analysis, and effect-based measurement (bioassays). This involved working with STOWA, Rijkswaterstaat and the Dutch Water Authorities. He also conducted joint research with several Dutch and foreign research laboratories and institutes. Originally educated as an aquatic ecologist, Milo would like to integrate and apply his wider knowledge of ecology, (eco)toxicology and analytical chemistry, so as to increase understanding of the risks presented by complex contaminants to humans and the environment. To facilitate collaboration, he prefers to do this in the context of a national or international network of researchers and users.
