Since 2018, Mario Castro-Gama joined KWR as advisor and researcher for the water infrastructure (WIS) team. He works on projects related to Hydroinformatics, cybersecurity for the drinking water industry and TKI projects. He is also the Watershare program liaison for the Community of Practice (CoP) Future-Proof Water Infrastructure (FPWI).
Mario is a civil engineer from the National University of Colombia. He worked for eight years in consultancy and as a lecturer in Colombia for projects in Latin America.
In Delft, Mario obtained his master’s degree in Water Science Engineering with specialisation in Hydroinformatics from UN-IHE. He’s currently finalising his PhD on the subject “Model-based simulation-optimisation for energy reduction in large water distribution networks” also at UN-IHE. In parallel to his studies, he worked with De Haagse Hogeschool for 4.5 years, where he was a lecturer and liaison for internationalisation of the civil engineering program. He is a member of IAHR and a signee of the EPANET Open Software Initiative.
