  • Scientific researcher

Jan van Lopik is a researcher on the Geohydrology team. His work concerns the optimisation of different subsurface water systems. Infiltration and abstraction wells are an essential component of these water systems. That is why Jan’s research is focused on the efficient design of these access portals to the subsurface, which enable the injection and abstraction of water into and from the groundwater aquifers. He built up broad expertise during his studies and doctoral work at Utrecht University. For example, he acquired a great deal of practical knowledge in setting up field trials with different dewatering and earth drilling companies. In his research projects he investigated among others the flow behaviour around return and drainage sources, the efficient design of return pumping systems, and the optimisation of high temperature storage systems.
